Should I tell my crush that I like him by writing it in his yearbook?

This guy that I like, well, he's basically everything I like in a guy but I'm not sure at all if he even likes me back. I feel like I'm being cowardly if I write it in his yearbook but I'm a shy person and I'm not sure I could do it in person.
