A question about being an Armor Officer in the Army?

If by chance I get assigned to a Cavalry Scout unit, would I be directly involved in scouting or would it be mostly staff work? If I am directly involved in scouting, how dangerous is that? I know this is the army and it's not exactly fluffy marshmallows, but is it comparable to being an infantry officer or is it a lot safer?
