The message: My luggage was selected for security scanning?

Okay, may luggage was selected for special security scanning. I got some kind of notice, and I threw it out, but it said on the notice: "Some items may have been removed for security purposes." I want to know exactly what the notice I found in my bag said, so I can contact the people who are responsible for the security scanning. The only item that is missing is a very special tie that had sentimental value to me. I'm extremely upset that this tie has gone missing, and I want to contact them about this security scanning to try to get my tie back. If anyone has had a similar notice put into their luggage when flying international from the United States, please tell me who places these messages into the baggage. Thank you.
